"Root, Root, Root for the Home Team..."

Last night we took the kids in the ward to a Modesto Nuts game. These are some great kids!

Nuts 7 Ports 0! Go Nuts!

Inclimate Weather

This week was pretty stormy (for California). Michael took a few pictures on his way home from Fresno. Apparently when he was DRIVING home from Fresno.

Tuned My Heart to Sing Thy Praise

Last Saturday was an amazing day. Michael and I had the chance to go to the temple in Oakland and our new friends Sam and Sopheap were baptized.

Elder Clawson, Sopheap, Bro. Escobar, Me, Sam and Elder Falvey before the baptism. Sam and Sopheap are so great with such a desire to be a part of the gospel.
Michael playing the prelude music (he was excellent). Michael and I were privileged to be a part of Sam and Sopheap's discussions with the Elders. What a wonderful experience.
Leeann Escobar, in the middle, the Escobar's are the neighbors of Sam and Sopheap and invited them to hear the discussions.

Things Seen In the Oakland Temple Parking Lot

Many, many "Semper Fi", Army, Navy, Marines bumper stickers in the lot. Thank-you to all who serve.

This was one of my favorites: "Don't tell Obama what comes after a trillion." A little unfair since both parties spend like crazy people but still funny!
These people parked next to each other. Truely "coexisting.

This was the dirtiest car I've ever seen, the back end was the cleanest part of the car! Love the bumper sticker :)

This one was on a GIANT, old, 70's van. Make you wonder what kind of "Lady" drives it...

Baseball Stuff!

Excerpt fom Ernest Thayer's "Casey at the Bat"

But Flynn let drive a single, to the wonderment of all,
And Blake, the much despis-ed, tore the cover off the ball;
And when the dust had lifted, and the men saw what had occurred,
There was Jimmy safe at second and Flynn a-hugging third.

Then from 5,000 throats and more there rose a lusty yell;
It rumbled through the valley, it rattled in the dell;
It knocked upon the mountain and recoiled upon the flat,
For Casey, mighty Casey, was advancing to the bat.

There was ease in Casey's manner as he stepped into his place;
There was pride in Casey's bearing and a smile on Casey's face.
And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat,
No stranger in the crowd could doubt 'twas Casey at the bat.

Ten thousand eyes were on him as he rubbed his hands with dirt;
Five thousand tongues applauded when he wiped them on his shirt.
Then while the writhing pitcher ground the ball into his hip,
Defiance gleamed in Casey's eye, a sneer curled Casey's lip.

These were some of the pictures from our Opening Week baseball fun. We attended a Modesto Nut's game at John Thurman Field, we watched the Giant's home opener (along with many other team's home openers), I attended a baseball themed baby shower and brought some cupcakes and made a few things with the baseball fabric I had. We love baseball and are excited to see how the Nuts and the Giants do this season. Go Giants!!

Pumpkin Pie Muffins with Maple Glaze

So I had some left-over canned pumpkin from this winter that I wanted to use up. I found an interesting recipe online and decided to try it.

PUMPKIN PIE MUFFINS WITH MAPLE GLAZE

1 (15oz) can pumpkin
1 box of spice cake mix or bran muffin mix (as long as it has cinnamon in it)

roasted pumpkin seeds (shelled - just the seed, from bulk bins in "healthy" isle)

1 cup powdered sugar
maple syrup

Directions:

1. Mix pumpkin and box mix together. Spoon into muffin cups. Sprinkle pumpkin seeds on top of each muffin. Bake as directed on box.

2. Allow muffins to cool completely. Mix 1 cup powdered sugar with about 1/4 cup maple syrup - or enough to form a glaze. Glaze cupcakes and enjoy.

These cupcakes had the taste and moist consistency of pumpkin pie. More of a fall flavor but still yummy.

Up-Do and Facial Night

Our new Mia Maid advisor is a hairdresser. For an activity last month she showed the girls how to do up-dos while the we made and used homemade facial creams.
Some of the girls mixing up yummy homemade facial creams like strawberries and honey and oatmeal banana.

Misty showing the girls a fancy up-do on one of beautiful girls Abigail. Her hair turned out amazing!

The activity was loads of fun but these girls just like to spend time together. They are AwEsOMe!!

Silly picture of the girls modeling their facial concoctions :)

Potato Planting

The last Saturday in March was planting day out at the church garden. We planted bags and bags of potatoes.
I (in the awesome sombrero) dug the hole for the potato and Mikey (in the garden hat) dropped the seed potato in and covered the hole back up. We were the fastest team out there. Yay for team Gariety!!
The bags of potatoes were really heavy. Mikey was an excellent farmer. He made his work look fun and easy and he encouraged me in mine.

The church has a cool ice-blue Ford tractor they use in the garden. I thought it would make an interesting picture plus we have a new camera (thank-you Target sale!) and I wanted to use it as much as I could.
