Mmmm...Butterscotch Rolls

After swimming today I came home to a freezing house (forgot to turn the heater back up before I left) and an empty house. I didn't feel like jumping right into homework or housework so I made some butterscotch rolls. They are like cinnamon rolls but without the cinnamon filling and with a butterscotch filling. Mike is not a fan of cinnamon in any form so I had to find alternatives. They smell so good hot out of the oven!

The recipe:

2 loaves of frozen Rhoades bread, thawed and risen.
1 pkg butterscotch pudding, instant
1/2 Cup of sugar
1/2 Cup of brown sugar
1 stick of melted butter

Roll out the risen loaves into a large rectangle

Mix the pudding mix, sugars and butter together to form a spread.

Spread onto the dough. Roll up and slice into 1 inch slices. Place into a prepared 9" x 13" prepared pan and let rise until doubled.

Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes until centers are done.

Frost with cream cheese frosting if desired.

On to housework and homework!

Way Back Wednesday

Mikey as a tot with his dad Norbert. We think this might be taken at Norb Jr.'s house on the day Mike's dad came to pick him up.

Our Very First Mammatus Clouds

The 18th of October brought some interesting cloud formations our way. I went online to try and see what type they were and I think they are Mammatus clouds.

Our camera wasn't that great at capturing the huge bubbles on the bottom of the cloud.  It was kind of like a funnel cloud but round.

Mammatus clouds have billowing, sagging, pouch-like formations beneath the cloud base and in the mid-west they are often times associated with severe weather systems (or so the NOAA website said).
Here in California it was very cool to see.

Thanksgiving Centerpieces

Our traditional early Thanksgiving this year gave me the opportunity to use some of our leftover pumpkins for centerpieces.

It is so great to have so many things growing in the yard and flower beds that can be used to beef up a store bought bouquet.
It really made the whole place feel like...

Mike Says the Darndest Things

This week Michael and I went to see 2012 on the big screen. In the car on our way there Michael turned to me and said (a little misty eyed I might add) that me "not being able to be a mother is like Shaq only getting to flip burgers." Which made me laugh but was also very sweet of him to say :).

After all these years he still knows how to make me laugh. What a good guy.

Veterans Day

It is the Soldier
Father Dennis Edward O'Brien

It is the Soldier,
not the reporter, who has given us freedom of press.

It is the Soldier,
not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier,
not the campus organizer, who gives us freedom to demonstrate.

It is the Soldier
who salutes the flag,
who serves beneath the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Thank you Veterans. Your service and sacrifice are not forgotten.
