My First Quilt

I am so excited! I finally used my sewing machine (Mike and my Dad gave it to me last year for Christmas) and I made a quilt for our bed. Once I read the manual it was pretty easy to figure out how to use the machine and I think it turned out pretty well. It was so fun. I hope I can learn to sew other things now. Hmm...maybe I can make Christmas stockings.

I only used three fabrics. A snowy Christmas village, blue and white snowflakes and red and green snowflakes. I wanted to use some red because our sheet set and pillows are red.

Trunk or Treat Halloween Party

What a fun Halloween party. They had lots of games for the kids, a cake walk and a trunk-or-treat. Our niece and nephew loved it.

Novalee (as Darth Vader), Braylon (as Yoda), Me (as a 70's girl) and Michael (as a Hawaiian Tourist).

Novalee won this cake in the cake walk. She was standing on winning #2!!! It was really cute. The Hershey's Cookies and Cream candy bars looked like real granite headstones - very creative.

By 8pm they were full of sugar and ready to go home. I am so glad Michael decided to go, he took a break from his killer physics mid-term take home test to party with the ward. Having him there just made it that much more fun! I love you Mikey!

Baby Yoda found a friend and spent the majority of the night using the "force" to get licorice and empty paper cups from Linda.  He loved all the attention and didn't fuss once all night.

Ghoulishly Fun Date Night

This week's date night was such a treat! We had dinner with our good friends Keith and Erin and their cute little boy Kai. We had grilled chicken, cheese fondue with yummy potato rosemary bread and carrots, rice crispy treats and homemade chocolate chip pumpkin cookies. We carved pumpkins and had a spectacularly spooky good time.

Baby Kai and I.

Carving pumpkins is hard work - but oh so fun!! Digging the squishy center out was the best! Very therapeutic.

We all had so much fun watching Keith carve his very first pumpkin - Go Bills!

Getting Crafty

I have had some extra time on my hands lately and I spent most of the day today being crafty and decorating for fall/halloween. I got the idea for the "Boo" and "Eek" pictures from my always creative sister-in-law. I just love Halloween. It is so nice to have a day when everyone hands out candy to strangers, wishing nothing in return.

What A Happy Boy

On Saturday Michael and I hung out with our nephew Braylon for a few hours. He sure loves his uncle Mikey.

Last weekend I wanted to make something extra yummy for Michael. I found this Chocolate Ganache Cake recipe online at Taste of Home. It was outstanding (doesn't look like much but it tastes amazing). Check out the recipe if you get the chance, you can find in at the taste of home website or

Michael loves to do the sudoku puzzle in the weekend paper.  I took this cool picture of him working on one of the puzzles.  Even our 5 year old niece knows that when you finish the puzzle you have to yell "Sudoku!!"  She has been known to hang around the table until he finishes just so she can yell it with him.

My aunt Kathy took my cousin Jenny and her family and I for a beach getaway in P.G. It was beautiful there. We had an amazing bungalow at the Butterfly Grove Inn. It even had a fireplace. I couldn't believe how many people were surfing!

On Monday night we checked into the hotel and then headed out to the Asilimar State Beach to walk around before heading over to Cannary Row to have dinner at El Torrito.

This one is for you Mikey!

Tuesday we all had a scrumptious continental breakfast and then went tide pooling. We found so many cool things - like hermit crabs!! We stayed until noon and then went to get sandwiches and head over to the Carmel City Beach by Pebble Beach. It was a beautiful, sunny day. We had a picnic, played beach volleyball, played in the surf and watched the sun set.
